Multimodal analgesia and opioid use in critically ill trauma patients
Journal of the American College of Surgeons Apr 27, 2019
Hamrick KL, et al. - In this pre-post cohort study of adult trauma ICU patients, researchers examined how multimodal analgesia that employs a combination of opioid and nonopioid agents using different mechanisms influences the opioid requirements of critically ill trauma patients. They compared the pre-group of 65 patients to post-group of 62 patients and identified a significant reduction in opioid use with the implementation of a multimodal pain management strategy in critically ill trauma patients without compromising patient comfort.
