Multifactor analysis of thyroid stiffness in Graves disease: A preliminary study
American Journal of Roentgenology Apr 26, 2019
Li S, et al. - In this preliminary study, researchers assessed the value of shear wave elastography (SWE) in Graves disease (GD) and identified the potential factors influencing thyroid stiffness. A total of 207 subjects, including 162 GD patients and 45 healthy volunteers with normal thyroid, matched for age and sex, were enrolled and underwent SWE examination in the study. For a patient with GD, the elastic modulus values were significantly higher than those for healthy control subjects. The SWE mean value of the ROC AUC for GD was 0.656, with a cutoff value of 15.45 kPa. The sensitivity and specificity were respectively 56.8% and 71.1%. Findings suggested that quantitative SWE assists in GD diagnosis. Thyroid stiffness of GD could be influenced by duration of disease, thyroid size, isthmus thickness, and levels of thyroid autoantibodies (TPO Ab, TG Ab, and TR Ab).
