Multidrug‐resistant tuberculosis during pregnancy and adverse birth outcomes: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Oct 21, 2020
Alene KA, et al. - Via performing a systematic review and meta‐analysis, researchers investigated the impact of multidrug‐resistant tuberculosis (MDR‐TB) and its medications during pregnancy on maternal and perinatal outcomes. Searching the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, they identified 72 records; of these, 12 were included in the systematic review and meta‐analysis, consisting of 174 pregnant women with MDR‐TB and 110 adverse outcomes. The findings suggest a high risk of adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes in correlation with MDR‐TB, however, they emphasize practicing caution while interpreting the findings as the evidence is largely preliminary.
