Multidimensional fatigue in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma receiving concurrent chemoradiotherapy: Incidence, severity, and risk factors
Supportive Care in Cancer Jul 25, 2021
Chen LM, Yang QL, Duan YY, et al. - This prospective study was carried out among patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT), to determine the incidence, severity, as well as risk factors of multidimensional fatigue in this population. Study sample comprised 79 patients with NPC in Guangzhou (China). Findings showed increased fatigue in all dimensions post- CCRT in NPC patients, and predictors vary for each fatigue dimension. The following factors were linked with increased general fatigue: lower lymphocyte count and body mass index <23 kg/m 2 . Increased physical fatigue was linked with age > 42 years. Lower lymphocyte count and unemployment were related to increased mental fatigue; and following factors showed connection with increased total fatigue: lower lymphocyte count, age > 42 years, and 3–6 courses of treatment. Severe total fatigue could be predicted by cancer stage IVB and 3–6 courses of treatment.
