Multicentre study of the prognostic impact of preoperative bodyweight on long-term prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma
British Journal of Surgery Feb 22, 2019
Yu JJ, et al. – In this study, researchers examined how patient weight affects long-term recurrence and overall survival (OS) following curative liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). They retrospectively analyzed data obtained from 1,524 patients with HCC who underwent curative liver resection (2000-2015) in 5 centers in China in three groups based on their preoperative BMI. In all, 107 were underweight, 891 were of normal weight, and 526 were overweight. Findings suggested a worse prognosis for underweight and overweight patients vs those of normal weight following liver resection for HCC.
