Multicentre propensity score-matched study of laparoscopic vs open repeat liver resection for colorectal liver metastases
British Journal of Surgery Feb 09, 2019
van der Poel MJ, et al. - In this retrospective, propensity score-matched study, researchers compared the short-term outcome of laparoscopic (LRLR) and open (ORLR) repeat liver resection for colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). Overall, researchers included 425 repeat liver resections. Of 271 LRLRs, they matched 105 with an ORLR. Analysis revealed LRLR to be associated with a shorter duration of operation, less intraoperative blood loss and a shorter postoperative hospital stay. Similar postoperative morbidity and mortality rates were encountered after LRLR and ORLR. These findings suggest that in selected patients LRLR is feasible for CRLM and may offer advantages over an open approach.
