Multicentre cohort study of antihypertensive and lipid-lowering therapy cessation after bariatric surgery
British Journal of Surgery Feb 22, 2019
Thereaux J, et al. - In this nationwide observational population-based cohort study, researchers compared the 6-year rates of continuation, discontinuation or initiation of antihypertensive and lipid-lowering therapy between patients who underwent bariatric surgery and a matched control group of obese patients. The French national health insurance database yielded 8,199 patients who underwent primary gastric bypass (55.2%) or sleeve gastrectomy (44.8%) in 2009. Compared to the control group, discontinuation of antihypertensive and lipid-lowering therapy was higher in correlation with bariatric surgery, with gastric bypass being more efficacious than sleeve gastrectomy.
