Multicenter study comparing oncologic outcomes between two nodal assessment methods in patients with deeply invasive endometrioid endometrial carcinoma: A sentinel lymph node algorithm vs a comprehensive pelvic and paraaortic lymphadenectomy
Gynecologic Oncology Sep 08, 2018
Schlappe BA, et al. - In the staging of deeply invasive (≥ 50% myometrial invasion) endometrioid endometrial carcinoma (EEC) cases, two nodal assessment methods were compared in terms of oncologic outcomes: a sentinel lymph node algorithm (SLN) vs pelvic and paraaortic lymphadenectomy to the renal veins (LND). They also compared outcomes in node-negative cases. Excluded cases were those with FIGO stage IV. Included subjects were those having deeply invasive EEC, who had LND (2004-2008) at one institution and SLN (2005-2013) at another. Findings revealed that oncologic outcomes were not weakened by using an SLN algorithm in deeply invasive EEC. In node-negative cases, excellent survival was seen, and it was not impacted by assessment method. Adjuvant chemotherapy seemed to have no effect on the outcome in node-negative patients.
