Multicenter retrospective study of the prognosis and treatment outcomes of Japanese oral squamous cell carcinoma patients with level IV/V metastasis
Head & Neck Feb 07, 2019
Hasegawa T, et al. - A total of 669 patients were examined to clarify the features and consequences of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma and level IV/V metastasis and also to assess the outcomes for those who underwent no postoperative therapy vs those who underwent postoperative radiotherapy (RT) and concomitant chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Researchers observed 47.3% and 64.3% as the 3-year cumulative overall survival rates of subjects with and without level IV/V metastasis, respectively. They found an association of tongue tumors, pN2 or N3 classification, and moderate or poor differentiation with the development of level IV/V metastasis. Better 3-year cumulative disease-specific survival and overall survival rates were linked with the surgery+RT/CCRT group vs the surgery only group.
