Multicenter randomized, double-blind controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of laser therapy for the treatment of severe oral mucositis induced by chemotherapy in children: laMPO RCT
Pediatric Blood & Cancer May 11, 2018
Gobbo M, et al. - Experts explored the effectiveness of laser photobiomodulation (PBM) vs placebo on severe oral mucositis (OM) in pediatric oncology patients. For this study, 101 children with WHO grade > 2 chemotherapy-induced OM were enrolled in eight Italian hospitals. They did not report any significant adverse events that could be ascribed to treatment. They concluded that PBM was a reliable, feasible, and effective treatment for children affected by chemotherapy-induced OM, and that it accelerates mucosal recovery and effectively reduces pain.
