Multi-band mucosectomy for neoplasia in patients with Barrett esophagus: In vivo comparison between two different devices
Surgical Endoscopy Oct 12, 2019
Spadaccini M, Bhandari P, Maselli R, et al. - Researchers compared the efficacy and safety of the multi-band mucosectomy (MBM) devices commercially available: Duette (CookMedical) and Captivator (BostonScientific) via conducting a dual-center retrospective case-control study (Rozzano, Portsmouth). They included 76 patients; 38 in Duette (DUE) and 38 in Captivator (CAPT) group. The DUE and CAPT group had R0 resection achieved in 96.7% vs 96.3% cases and LR in 4/38 (10.5%) vs 3/38 (7.9%), respectively. Considering Duette vs Captivator, a symptomatic stricture developed in 2 vs 3 patients. They identified postprocedural bleeding in only one patient (Captivator). Findings thereby suggest that both the available devices could be employed for performing MBM safely and effectively for resecting visible lesions.
