Bonifaz A, Tirado‐Sánchez A, Hernández‐Medel ML, et al. - This study was intended to describe the experience of mucormycosis observed in a tertiary‐care hospital in Mexico for 35 years. Between January 1985 and December 2019, researchers conducted a retrospective, descriptive, and observational study on mucormycosis at a tertiary‐care hospital in Mexico. They selected demographic and clinical data, as well as mycological and histopathological records. This study included a total of 214 proven cases of mucormycosis for 35 years at a tertiary‐care hospital in Mexico. This study’s findings revealed that mucormycosis is an emerging disease, and its incidence has elevated at our hospital over the years. In patients with uncontrolled diabetes, the rhino‐cerebral clinical type was the most frequent; the main etiologic agent was R. arrhizus. The results considered that the early diagnosis, control of the underlying disease, and prompt management may increase the survival rate.
