MRI presentation of hepatocellular carcinoma in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)
European Journal of Radiology Sep 15, 2019
Al-Sharhan F, Dohan A, Barat M, et al. - In patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), researchers characterized the MRI characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). By two observers, MRI examinations of 21 patients {mean age were 67.9 ± 10.2 (SD) years} with HCC and NASH have been analyzed. In terms of image presentation, images were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results obtained from the study indicate that 57% of NASH HCC may present as a lesion smaller than 20 mm and 40% may not demonstrate wash-out. These findings show that in patients with NASH, classical imaging criteria developed for noninvasive HCC diagnosis should be applied with caution to HCC.
