MRI features of pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms associated with invasive carcinoma

Clinical Radiology Jul 12, 2018

Xu W, et al. - The association between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics and histopathology in pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) related to invasive carcinoma was evaluated in this analysis. For this analysis, 32 patients with pancreatic IPMN associated with invasive carcinoma treated at a regional hospital in Dezhou were recruited and their MRI findings were analyzed retrospectively. The subjects were assigned to either group A if they had an invasive component of < 50% (IPMC-I; n=17) or group B if they had an invasive component of ≥50% (pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma-associated IPMN [PDAC-IPMN]; n=15). It was observed that the MRI features varied between IPMC-I and PDAC-IPMN. Specifically, dynamic enhancement on preoperative MRI could be used for diagnosis and clinicopathological classification of pancreatic IPMN associated with invasive carcinoma.
