Mottling score is a strong predictor of 14-day mortality in septic patients whatever vasopressor doses and other tissue perfusion parameters
Critical Care Jun 18, 2019
Dumas G, et al. - In this study including a development cohort and an independent validation cohort, researchers focused on the predictive value of Mottling score (a tissue perfusion parameter) on death according to prognostic covariates such as vasopressor dose and other tissue perfusion parameters in 259 patients with sepsis or septic shock. Mottling score, arterial lactate level, and urine output < 0.5 ml/Kg/h were found to be related to mortality. In the development cohort and in the validation cohort, the C statistic for the model was 0.90 and 0.76, respectively. For 14-day mortality in septic patients, a high prognostic value of mottling score was evident, whatever vasopressor dosage and other perfusion parameters. Death was also predicted by Mottling score variations during resuscitation.
