Motor subtypes and other risk factors associated with drooling in Parkinson's disease patients
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica Apr 17, 2018
Mao CJ, et al. - Researchers aimed at determining the relationship between motor subtypes and drooling and risk factors associated with drooling in a large cohort of Chinese patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Drooling was seen in 54% of the study group. Even in mild-to-moderate PD patients, drooling was commonly noted. A higher risk of drooling was observed in PD patients with non-TD subtype. In patients with PD, male sex, motor severity, excessive daytime sleepiness, poor nighttime sleep, and constipation were also noted to be associated with drooling.
