Mortality trends of bladder cancer in China from 1991 to 2015: An age-period-cohort analysis
Cancer Management and Research Apr 18, 2019
Yang Y, et al. - The secular trends of bladder cancer mortality in China were determined. Further, the independent effects of age, period, and cohort on this trend were measured. Using the WHO Mortality Database and China Health Statistical Yearbook, they obtained data for bladder cancer mortality from 1991 to 2015. Outcomes revealed decreasing trends in the age-standardized mortality rates of total residents, more obvious in males than in females. With age, all age groups displayed a consistent increase in age effects. They observed an overall decrease in cohort effects and no period effects in China. In the next few years, it is expected that the bladder cancer burden in China will increase due to population aging, environmental pollution, and food safety. They recommend undertaking preventive measures corresponding to the changes in age-and cohort-related factors in the population.
