Mortality of people with Parkinson disease in a large UK-based cohort study: Time trends and relationship to disease duration
Movement Disorders Aug 11, 2021
Okunoye O, Horsfall L, Marston L, et al. - According to findings, the progression of Parkinson disease (PD) is associated with increased mortality, and that lowering mortality will necessitate treatments that address the underlying disease progression, complications, or associated comorbidities.
In total, 10,104 people with a diagnosis of PD and 55,664 people without PD were involved.
When compared with non-PD controls, PD was linked to a slightly higher mortality rate.
In the 5 years following diagnosis, adjusted mortality rates per 1,000 person-years at risk for people with PD nearly doubled from 43 to 75.
After adjusting for age, gender, and time since diagnosis, mortality rates for people with PD fell more slowly between 2007 and 2016 than for people without PD.
