Mortality not correlated with paclitaxel exposure: An independent patient-level meta-analysis of a drug-coated balloon
Journal of the American College of Cardiology May 26, 2019
Schneider PA, et al. - Via this independent patient-level meta-analysis, researchers investigated whether paclitaxel exposure correlates with mortality in paclitaxel drug-coated balloon (DCB) patients. They analyzed data from 1,980 patients who were followed-up for 5 years and were included in 2 single-arm and 2 randomized independently adjudicated prospective studies. These studies included 1,837 cases of paclitaxel DCB and 143 cases of uncoated percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). Comparing all patients or patients with like features, all-cause mortality was not significantly different between DCB and PTA over 5 years. According to the findings, paclitaxel DCB is safe. Level of paclitaxel exposure did not correlate with mortality in DCB patients.
