Mortality in patients with giant cell arteritis: A cohort study in UK primary care
Arthritis Care & Research Jun 13, 2018
Li L, et al. - Authors ascertained if giant cell arteritis (GCA) was related to increased all-cause mortality. They also evaluated whether mortality differed according to age, sex, and calendar year of cohort entry. As per the data, the risk of mortality was increased in the GCA patients during the period shortly after the GCA diagnosis, particularly during the first year, but no increased risk after 5 years postdiagnosis was seen. The risk of mortality differed by age. The mortality demonstrated a 1-year greater increase in those age <65 years at diagnosis, but not by sex or calendar year of cohort entry.
