Mortality and stroke recurrence in a rehabilitation cohort of patients with cerebral infarcts and Chagas disease
European Neurology Mar 17, 2018
Montanaro VVA, et al. - The objective herein was to discover the factors linked to mortality and recurrence of ischemic stroke (IS) in patients with IS and Chagas disease. No connection was determined between cardiac conditions with mortality or recurrence. Findings unveiled that age served as a protective factor against recurrence, possibly attributable to the cumulative risk of IS over time, while initial modified Rankin Scale (mRS) was associated with both outcomes. Additionally, researchers found that treating diseases such as diabetes mellitus (DM) and bladder dysfunction, and early treatment to reduce the initial mRS could potentially prevent both outcomes. Furthermore, establishing a correct etiological diagnosis appeared to be vital.
