Mortality among patients with polymyalgia rheumatica: A retrospective cohort study
Arthritis Care & Research Aug 07, 2020
Partington R, Muller S, Mallen CD, et al. - Via extracting anonymized electronic medical records of patients over the age of 40 years, who were eligible for linkage with the Office for National Statistics Death Registration dataset, from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink from 1990‐2016, researchers ascertained if a diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is correlated with premature mortality. Eighteen thousand nine hundred forty-three patients with PMR were matched to 87,801 controls. A diagnosis with PMR doesn't seem to raise the risk of premature death. Minor variations in death causes have been identified but this research is encouraging overall for patients with PMR and clinicians.
