Harvin JA, et al. - This multicenter, retrospective study intended to determine current mortality rates for patients undergoing emergent trauma laparotomy. With hemorrhage accounting for 60% of the deaths, the overall mortality rate of a trauma laparotomy was substantial (21%). Over the last 2 decades, the mortality rate for hypotensive patients (46%) appeared unchanged and was even more concerning, with almost half of patients presenting with a systolic blood pressure (SBP) of 90 mm Hg or less dying.
