Morning vs afternoon adenoma detection rate: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Mar 10, 2020
Barakat M, Panchal A, Abdelfatah MM, et al. - Via conducting a systematic review of the PubMed, CINAHL and Scopus electronic databases, researchers sought to compare morning vs afternoon adenoma detection rate (ADR). Studies were included if they reported ADR during morning sessions and afternoon sessions in patients undergoing colonoscopy. Afternoon sessions included both morning shift sessions and half-day shift blocks. Thirteen articles with 17,341 performed in the morning session and 10,994 performed in the afternoon session were involved. Between morning and afternoon sessions, respectively, there was no statistical significance in the ADR or advanced ADR. Afternoon procedures had a much higher rate of identification of polyps than the procedures in the morning. In the afternoon session, ADR was not significantly influenced by the operators continuing to execute procedures throughout the day or on a half-day block schedule.
