Monocytic human leukocyte antigen-DR expression for prediction of anastomotic leak after colorectal surgery
Journal of the American College of Surgeons Mar 27, 2019
Sint A, et al. - Considering that minimization of the detrimental clinical impact of anastomotic leakage (AL) could be achieved with its earlier detection following colorectal surgery, researchers investigated the diagnostic value of monocytic human leukocyte antigen-DR (mHLA-DR) expression compared to white blood cells (WBC), C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) in predicting AL in patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery with anastomosis in this prospective study. Observations suggest the higher predictive value of mHLA-DR expression for AL following colorectal surgery compared to WBC, CRP, and PCT. They suggest a promising utility of this test to precisely monitor the perioperative course of high-risk patients.
