Monocytic human leukocyte antigen-DR expression for prediction of anastomotic leak after colorectal surgery
Journal of American College of Surgeons Apr 28, 2019
Sint A, et al. - Researchers performed this study to assess the diagnostic accuracy of monocytic human leukocyte antigen-DR (mHLA-DR) expression compared to white blood cells (WBC), C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) in predicting anastomotic leakage (AL) in patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery with anastomosis. They observed significant differences for all markers on postoperative day 4 on comparing the blood marker values. Compared to WBC, CRP and PCT, expression of mHLA-DR seems to be a more accurate predictor for AL following colorectal surgery. For monitoring perioperative course of high-risk patients and for safer discharge, it represents a promising test.
