Modified XELIRI (capecitabine plus irinotecan) vs FOLFIRI (leucovorin, fluorouracil, and irinotecan), both either with or without bevacizumab, as second-line therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer (AXEPT): A multicentre, open-label, randomised, non-inferiority, phase 3 trial
The Lancet Oncology Mar 21, 2018
Xu RH, et al. - Given that studies of a modified XELIRI (mXELIRI; capecitabine plus irinotecan) regimen suggest promising efficacy and tolerability profiles in the first-line and second-line settings, researchers herein compared the mXELIRI regimen with standard FOLFIRI (leucovorin, fluorouracil, and irinotecan), with or without bevacizumab in both regimens, as a second-line therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer. mXELIRI with or without bevacizumab had good tolerability and produced overall survival no inferior to that achieved with FOLFIRI with or without bevacizumab. Overall, mXELIRI could be an alternative to FOLFIRI as a standard second-line backbone treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer, at least for Asian patient populations.
