Modified risk stratification based on cervical lymph node metastases following lobectomy for papillary thyroid carcinoma
Clinical Endocrinology Oct 24, 2019
Song E, Ahn J, Song DE, et al. - Among 571 patients who had thyroid lobectomy for 1–4 cm-sized papillary thyroid carcinoma, researchers conducted this retrospective cohort study to evaluate the risk of recurrence according to the present American Thyroid Association (ATA) risk stratification system. Findings indicate that risk stratification based on lymph node metastases alone is more reasonable to predict structural persistence/recurrence after lobectomy than that based on the overall ATA criteria. Considering the extranodal extension status, patients with a high risk of recurrence can be selected to minimize further treatments.
