Modifiable factors to prevent prolonged length of stay after sleeve gastrectomy
Obesity Surgery Feb 07, 2019
Meneveau M, et al. - Factors associated with early discharge were evaluated at a single institution with intention to discharge on postoperative day 1. Three hundred and sixty-seven patients undergoing sleeve gastrectomy (SG) at an academic hospital between 2010 and 2016 were retrospectively reviewed for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative factors. Multiple factors were identified affecting length of stay (LOS) after SG, including patient health, socioeconomic status, case order, and postoperative management. Optimization of these may help to improve preoperative education and streamline postoperative pathways, resulting in reduced LOS.
