Moderate morning rise in blood pressure has lowest risk of stroke but only in women
Journal of Hypertension Jun 05, 2019
Head GA, et al. - Given the link between morning period—the highest risk for cardiovascular events—and blood pressure (BP) surge, researchers clarified whether the rate of rise (RoR), the magnitude (day/night difference), or the product (BP power [BPPower]) is related to increased cardiovascular risk. They developed a logistic equation method to fit individual 24-hour patterns of BP to determine RoR, amplitude, and BPPower via using ambulatory recordings from the Ohasama study, which included 564 men and 971 who were followed up for 16.6 years. In all, the risk of cardiovascular events was higher among men than women, and age and night PB were strong linear risk predictors. According to findings, the morning BPPower is an important independent risk factor for predicting cardiovascular events and stroke but only in women with median levels having the lowest risk.
