Ministernotomy compared with right anterior minithoracotomy for aortic valve surgery
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery May 17, 2021
Bonacchi M, Dokollari A, Parise O, et al. - Researchers compared 2 main techniques for minimally invasive aortic valve replacement: ministernotomy vs right anterior minithoracotomy, focusing on early and long-term outcomes of these approaches. This study involved data of 2,419 patients receiving isolated minimally invasive aortic valve replacement between 1999 and 2019 (1352 in the ministernotomy group and 1067 in the minithoracotomy group). In each group, there were 986 patients after application of propensity score matching. Findings revealed that reduced operative time, intensive care unit stay, hospital length of stay, and postoperative morbidities and incisional pain were conferred by ministernotomy and also this technique offered improvement in early and long-term mortality, when applied for minimally invasive aortic valve replacement.
