Minimally invasive vs open radical cystectomy in patients with bladder cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Sep 21, 2019
Hua X, Xionga SC, Dou WC, et al. - The perioperative outcomes, pathological outcomes, and oncologic outcomes of minimally invasive surgical (MIS) approaches were compared with those of open radical cystectomy (ORC) for bladder cancer. Analysis of eight randomized controlled trials comprising 805 patients was performed. As per findings, MIS approaches results in improved perioperative outcomes with similar pathological and oncological outcomes when compared with ORC. Similar results were observed when stratification by type of MIS approaches was done. This study thereby supports that consideration could be given to MIS approaches as an alternative choice in patients with bladder cancer.
