Minimally invasive vs open distal pancreatectomy for ductal adenocarcinoma (DIPLOMA): A pan-European propensity score matched study
Annals of Surgery Dec 22, 2018
van Hilst J, et al. - Minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy (MIDP) was compared with open distal pancreatectomy (ODP) in terms of oncological outcomes in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). From 34 centers in 11 countries, they included 1212 patients. They matched 340 of 356 (29%) MIDP patients. Outcomes suggest MIDP and ODP for PDAC as comparable in terms of survival outcome. However, the procedures displayed opposing differences in R0 resection rate, resection of Gerota's fascia, and lymph node retrieval strengthen highlighting the need for a randomized trial to confirm the oncological safety of MIDP.
