Galal S - Researchers performed the comparison of safety and efficiency of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis to reamed intramedullary nails in treating open tibial shaft fractures. In treating Gustilo-Anderson type I, II and III-A open tibial shaft fractures, minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) technique and reamed intra-medullary nails (R-IMN) technique were equally safe. Both techniques had similar rate of infection & non-union. Findings thereby suggested considering the MIPO technique a valid treatment alternative for such fractures.
