Mini-percutaneous cystolithotripsy (mPCCL) vs transurethral cystolithotripsy (TUC) in pre-school children: Prospective comparative non-randomized outcomes over 8 years
Journal of Pediatric Urology Oct 15, 2020
Mishra DK, Bhatt S, Mukhilesh R, et al. - Researchers assumed that mini-percutaneous cystolithotripsy (mPCCL) is a new minimally invasive technique with comparable outcomes to transurethral cystolithotripsy (TUC). This study included consecutive pre-school children with bladder stones from January 2011–December 2018 after parental consent and institutional review board approval. They enrolled a sum of 31 individuals (16 patients in Group 1 (mPCCL) and 15 individuals in Group 2 (TUC) who had undergone the procedure. Good outcomes were recorded in managing bladder stones with the use of both TUC and mPCCL. While mPCCL was being introduced, they shifted from the former to mPCCL in 2014 during which there was an overlap of both these techniques. It was reported that all stones have been treated with mPCCL without the need to revert back to TUC.
