Midterm outcomes and survivorship of anterior stabilized vs cruciate retaining bearing in primary total knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Oct 10, 2020
Law JI, Hurst JM, Morris MJ, et al. - In this study, outcomes and survivorship between an ultra-congruent anterior stabilized (AS) and cruciate-retaining (CR) bearing were compared. Researchers conducted a retrospective review from 2010 through 2014 of all primary total knee arthroplasties with a single knee system identical to the cruciate-retaining femur and AS or CR bearing with a minimum 2-year follow-up yielding a study cohort of 3,323 patients (4164 knees). The outcomes of this study indicate the AS bearing had significantly higher improvements in clinical and functional outcomes as well as greater survivorship. It was illustrated that knees in which an AS bearing was applied did have a higher incidence of manipulation under anesthesia.
