Midazolam vs dexamethasone‐ondansetron in preventing postoperative nausea‐vomiting in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgeries
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Mar 14, 2021
Prakash K, et al. - Researchers aimed at comparing midazolam with a combination of dexamethasone‐ondansetron in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). They randomized 120 patients undergoing laparoscopic surgeries having 2 or more risk factors for PONV (simplified Apfel score) either to receive 8 mg dexamethasone and 4 mg ondansetron for PONV prophylaxis (group D ) or to receive 2 mg midazolam (group M) towards the end of surgery. Group D and group M had PONV at 24 hours at the frequency of 30% and 33.3%, respectively. Overall findings suggest that frequency of PONV was not significantly different in correlation with providing midazolam vs a combination of dexamethasone‐ondansetron.
