Starnes-Roubaud MJ, et al. - Researchers presented their 15-year experience examining outcomes of free tissue transfer in pediatric oncologic patients. For pediatric patients requiring soft tissue or bony reconstruction, free tissue transfer seemed a reliable and appropriate choice. Even in pediatric oncologic patients with preoperative chemotherapy or radiation, flap survival and outcomes were similar to the adult population. They recommended considering pediatric free tissue transfer as the gold standard for patients with complex defects, just as it is in the adult population.
