Abraham E, et al. - Researchers investigated if microscopic positive margins are associated with increased risk of disease recurrence in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). They noted a strong association between microscopic positive margins and other adverse prognostic factors in PTC, however, no independent association with disease recurrence was noted on multivariate analysis. In the absence of other indications for radioactive iodine, microscopic positive margins were observed to be rare (1.1%).
