MicroRNA-binding site polymorphisms and risk of colorectal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Cancer Medicine Oct 27, 2019

Gholami M, Larijani B, Sharifi F, et al. - Researchers examined the link between microRNA-binding site polymorphisms and colorectal cancer (CRC) via this systematic review and meta-analysis. They analyzed all types of observational studies that were published in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase till 30 November 2018 and were identified via an electronic literature search. Included studies were 85 (21 SNPs) in total. They found that the East Asian population exhibited an increased risk of CRC in relation to the presence of minor allele of rs3025039, rs3212986, and rs712 polymorphisms, and heterozygote model of rs731236 polymorphism demonstrated protective influence in the Middle East population. In Europeans, an increased risk of CRC may be observed in correlation with the presence of the minor allele of rs17281995, while rs712 may have a protective influence in these people.
