Metoprolol has a similar therapeutic effect as amlodipine on BP lowering in hypertensive patients with obstructive sleep apnea
Sleep and Breathing Jul 02, 2018
Shi J, et al. - Experts assessed the impacts of metoprolol on blood pressure (BP) lowering with amlodipine in hypertensive obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients. They randomly assigned the hypertensive subjects with OSA to metoprolol or amlodipine groups, receiving 12 weeks of either oral metoprolol (47.5 mg once daily) or oral amlodipine (5 mg once daily) treatment. As per findings, authors noted similar therapeutic effects of metoprolol as amlodipine on BP lowering, but it could not decrease heart rate during the nighttime in hypertensive patients with OSA.
