Methotrexate preferentially affects Tc1 and Tc17 subset of CD8 T lymphocytes

Clinical Rheumatology Mar 09, 2018

Sandhu A, et al. - Herein, the effect of methotrexate (the gold-standard DMARD) on various CD8 cytokine T-lymphocyte subsets and CD4 subsets in subjects with active rheumatoid arthritis was assessed by the experts. Findings suggested a notable decline of CD8+IFNγ+ T cells and a marginal increase in CD8+IL17+ T cells following methotrexate treatment. Tc1 subset change could be mediated through a reduction in IL-12 levels.
