Methotrexate might reduce ischemic stroke in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A population-based retrospective cohort study
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases May 06, 2018
Tam HW, et al. - Authors assessed the impacts of hydroxychloroquine, sulfasalazine and methotrexate on ischemic stroke in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). All the participants included in this trial were from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) of Taiwan. The participants involved had a mean age of about 53 years, and about 70% of the patients were women. In RA patients, ischemic stroke risk could be decreased with methotrexate at > 0.5 defined daily dose, while hydroxychloroquine and sulfasalazine were neutral.
