Method of pedicle division during laparoscopic right hemicolectomy affects lymph node yield and short-term outcomes
ANZ Journal of Surgery May 03, 2018
Pal A, et al. - Methods of pedicle division used during laparoscopic right hemicolectomy [extracorporeal right hemicolectomy (RHC-EC) and intracorporeal right hemicolectomy (RHC-IC)] were compared in terms of pathological and short-term clinical outcomes. Researchers noted adequate lymph node yield after laparoscopic RHC, whether the vascular pedicle is taken intracorporeal or extracorporeal, supporting the use of both approaches. RHC-IC yielded more lymph nodes and greater mesocolic width, but involved a longer operation and higher incidence of ileus.
