Metal artifact reduction sequence magnetic resonance imaging abnormalities in asymptomatic patients with a ceramic-on-ceramic total hip replacement
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 19, 2020
Jennings JM, Czuczman GJ, Johnson RM, et al. - In this study, the frequency and types of metal artifact reduction sequence (MARS) MRI-documented abnormalities were ascertained in asymptomatic patients with a ceramic-on-ceramic (CoC) THA. Researchers included a total of 37 patients (42 hips) with a minimum 2-year follow-up after THA with CoC THA implants. This study observed fluid collections in 8 (19%) asymptomatic hips in this cohort. This study's findings demonstrate that symptomatic fluid collections occur in patients after CoC THA similar to other bearing surfaces. They continue to follow these individuals in an effort to ascertain the clinical significance and natural history of these findings.
