Metabolic syndrome in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: Association with disease activity, disease damage and age
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Apr 08, 2018
Mobini M, et al. - Researchers evaluated the frequency of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. The SLE patients included in this study had a mean age of 40.97 ± 12.2 years, and 95.8% were female. Compared to the control group, the frequency of MetS did not demonstrate any significant difference, but almost half of the patients were seen to have this syndrome. There was more likeliness of lupus patients to have hypertension. Findings suggested that patients with major organ involvement had significantly higher age and disease duration in the MetS subgroup.
