Metabolic syndrome in offspring of parents with metabolic syndrome: A meta-analysis

Obesity Facts Feb 03, 2021

Irakoze L, Manirakiza A, Zhang Y, et al. - Researchers sought to reevaluate the parent-offspring association of metabolic syndrome (MetS) since the available findings are still controversial. In order to identify relevant articles, the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched. All studies contrasting MetS status between the offspring of parents with MetS and offspring of parents without MetS were involved in the analysis. In total, 9 studies met the inclusion criteria and they were analyzed. This meta-analysis found that in the offspring of parents with MetS, there is a higher risk of MetS. There was, however, no differential MetS correlation according to the gender and/or age of the offspring.
