Metabolic indexes of obesity in patients with common mental disorders in stable stage
BMC Psychiatry Feb 15, 2022
Researchers analyzed the metabolic indexes of patients with common mental disorders in a stable stage with the aim to explore the related factors of obesity among them.
Included were 576 individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder (BD) or schizophrenia (SCZ).
Relative to patients with MDD, those with BD and SCZ are more prone to obesity.
In multiple linear regression analysis, increase in the value of BMI was observed with the increase of age, TG, LDL, LDH, SCr, UA, HbA1c and hsCRP.
Decrease in BMI was observed in correlation with an increase in HDL.
Based on findings, researchers recommend regularly checking blood indicators and strengthening weight management in people with mental disorders to lower the risk of obesity and promote their health.
