Metabolic health across the BMI spectrum in HIV-infected and HIV-uninfected men
AIDS Dec 13, 2017
Lake JE, et al. - In this work, researchers tested their hypothesis that HIV-infected (HIV+) men on suppressive antiretroviral therapy experience less metabolic health than HIV-uninfected (HIV-) men across all BMI categories. They observed no differences in metabolically healthy obesity prevalence by HIV serostatus. However, HIV infection among nonobese men was correlated with lower metabolic health prevalence. This was observed along with associations between lack of metabolic health and darunavir and thymidine analog nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor exposure.
