Meta-analysis of risk factors and complications associated with atrial fibrillation after oesophagectomy
British Journal of Surgery Mar 31, 2019
Schizas D, et al. - A total of 9,087 candidates were studied to describe the risk factors and complications related with atrial fibrillation (AF) following esophagectomy. They noted 16.5% was the overall incidence of postoperative AF. They reported an association of coronary artery disease and hypertension with AF, but not with diabetes, smoking, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. A significantly higher risk of overall postoperative adverse events vs those without fibrillation, including 30-day mortality, anastomotic leak, and pneumonia, was recorded in cases with AF.
